Clinics

At Lonsdale Medical Centre, we run many clinics with our doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists and other health care workers.

You can see a GP either in person or by phone. Most of our appointments are face-to-face, but if a phone call works better for you, we’re happy to arrange that. For patients who cannot leave their homes, we can visit — both for routine care and if something urgent comes up. We’re here to make it as easy as possible for you to get the care you need.

Our practice nurse is available for a variety of services, including:

  • Cervical smears
  • Wound checks
  • Immunisations and injections
  • Long-term condition management
  • Minor illness management
  • Travel advice and  vaccinations

Our healthcare assistants provide essential services, including:

  • NHS health checks (for those aged 40 and over)
  • Diabetes and pre-diabetes health checks
  • Injections
  • Blood tests
  • ECG’s
  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring

We have a caring team of three phlebotomists who carry out blood tests for patients aged 16 and over. They also help with our flu vaccine programme. If a child needs a blood test, they will be referred to the hospital, so please speak to your GP for advice. Our team will do their best to make you feel at ease during your visit.

Our four clinical pharmacists support patients by:

  • Monitoring long-term conditions like blood pressure, diabetes, and lipid management
  • Auditing and reviewing high-risk medications
  • Managing repeat prescriptions

We offer physiotherapy twice a week to help patients with problems such as back pain or joint issues. Our physiotherapist will listen, assess your condition, and guide you towards the right treatment.

Our social prescriber is here to help with non-medical issues that may affect your health, such as:

  • Money or housing worries
  • Benefits advice
  • Finding local community services and support

They are available two days a week and can be a great source of help with life’s challenges.

Minor Surgery

Dr Abdul Naem runs a Minor Surgery Clinic twice a week at Lonsdale. This clinic offers treatment for harmless skin conditions, such as:

  • Removing lumps, bumps, or skin lesions
  • Joint injections

To book a minor surgery consultation, please contact reception or use our online booking request.

Please note: this clinic does not deal with suspected cancerous lesions. Our team will be happy to guide you if you’re not sure whether your condition is suitable for this clinic.

We offer an 8-week check that includes:

  • The 6-week postnatal review for mums
  • The 8-week baby check, which includes vaccinations

This is a critical appointment for ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and baby.

We provide a dedicated phone line for patients aged 75 and over. This line, monitored by our experienced team members Sue and Anne, allows easier access to the clinic for help and support.

As part of our network of practices, we offer extra GP appointments outside normal hours. These are available:

  • Monday to Friday, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
  • Saturday, 9:00am – 5:00pm

These appointments need to be booked in advance. This service helps you see a GP at a time that’s more convenient for you.

In our Lonsdale waiting room, we have a Self-check Pod where you can measure your blood pressure, height, and weight. The results can be added straight to your medical record, and our reception team will be happy to help if you need support.

Alongside the care we give at the surgery, we also work with local health teams, such as:

  • District nurses – visit patients at home for nursing care
  • Palliative care team – give extra support to people with serious or end-of-life illnesses
  • Urgent home visiting team (STAARS) – visit patients quickly at home when needed

These teams help make sure patients get full care at home, especially during difficult or end-of-life times.

For more information, or to book an appointment, please speak to our reception team or use our online booking system.

Managing chronic diseases

We run clinics to help you manage long-term health conditions. Our team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, healthcare assistants, dieticians, and social prescribers work together to support your care.

Diabetes clinic

Clinical Pharmacist Hanan leads our diabetes clinic. We check your health regularly, give advice, and help you manage your condition with diet, medicine, or insulin. If you need insulin, we may refer you to the hospital at first.

We also recommend all patients with diabetes get a yearly flu jab and a pneumonia vaccine.

Annual Reviews

Everyone with diabetes can have a yearly review. We check your blood pressure, weight, urine, feet, and general health. Please bring a morning urine sample. Afterward, we’ll give you a care plan and, if needed, arrange follow-ups with your GP, nurse, or other specialists.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) clinic

Our CHD clinic offers monitoring and support for patients who have had a heart attack or angina (chest pain). Managing blood pressure, cholesterol, and making healthy lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk of future heart problems.

Our team provides regular reviews and tailored advice to help you stay well.

Asthma and COPD clinics

Our respiratory clinics support patients with asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

Asthma is caused by inflammation of the airways, making them more sensitive and narrowed. Our specially trained nurses monitor your condition, adjust treatment if needed, and offer personalised advice.

COPD is a group of lung conditions—including chronic bronchitis and emphysema—that cause long-term breathing problems, often due to smoking.

We aim to see all patients with asthma or COPD at least once a year, or more frequently depending on your needs. Our clinics help with diagnosis, management, and ongoing support to keep symptoms under control

Healthcare Assistant: Dominika Schmidt

We help patients manage high blood pressure. If your readings are high, you may need checks such as blood tests, urine tests, ECGs, or 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.

If your blood pressure stays high, your doctor may give you medicine. Once it is stable, we ask you to have regular checks with our healthcare team, usually around your birthday each year. You can also check your blood pressure at home or in reception and share the results with us.

Warfarin monitoring clinic

Healthcare assistant: Dominika Schmidt

Warfarin is an important medication used to prevent serious, life-threatening conditions such as strokes and blood clots. However, it must be closely monitored, as incorrect dosing can be dangerous.

Recent prescribing changes mean that warfarin can no longer be prescribed "as directed"—the exact dose must now be stated on each prescription. Before issuing a prescription, the doctor must confirm that the required monitoring has been completed.

We offer a healthcare assistant-led clinic for patients who are already stable on warfarin. This clinic ensures safe and effective ongoing monitoring.

High-risk medication reviews

Some medications require regular and careful monitoring to ensure they are safe and effective. These include lithium, certain DMARDs (Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs), and ADHD medications.

Our clinical pharmacists lead specialist high-risk medication review clinics to support patients on these treatments.

If you are prescribed one of these medications, we will let you know the monitoring requirements—such as blood tests, physical health checks, or regular reviews—and guide you through the process to help you stay well and safe.
