Chaperones

At Lonsdale Medical Centre, your comfort and safety are our top priorities. We have a chaperone policy in place to ensure that you feel secure during your medical appointments.

What is a chaperone?

A chaperone is someone who can be present during your medical examination. They provide support and reassurance to you and help protect both you and the healthcare professional.

When can you have a chaperone?

You can request a chaperone for any examination, especially if it involves intimate areas.

We encourage you to ask for a chaperone if it makes you feel more comfortable.

If you prefer not to have a chaperone, that’s perfectly fine too.

Types of chaperones:

Informal chaperone: This could be a friend or family member who you feel comfortable with.

Formal chaperone: A trained healthcare professional. All of our chaperones receive training

How to request a chaperone:

Simply let us know if you would like a chaperone when you book your appointment or when you arrive.

If a chaperone is not available immediately, we can reschedule your appointment.

Special considerations:

We respect your cultural, religious, and personal preferences. You can request a chaperone of the same sex if that makes you more comfortable.

For non-English speaking patients, we can arrange for an interpreter to be present.

Your rights:

You have the right to feel safe and respected during your visit.

You can decline a chaperone if you prefer, and this will be noted in your records.

You are entitled to request a chaperone for any consultation, intimate examination, or procedure.

Please let reception know when booking, or ask your clinician during the appointment.
