Flu Clinics 2022/23

Posted on October 11th, 2022

We have started our 2022 flu vaccination program in earnest.  Flu vaccination is important because while flu is unpleasant for most people it can be dangerous or even life-threatening for some people, particularly those with certain health conditions. The best time to have the flu vaccine is in the autumn or early winter before the flu starts spreading.  With this in mind we have put up lots of appointments for flu vaccinations, with all of our phlebotomists, our HCA, nurse, and GPs contributing, and we have been running Saturday flu clinics throughout October. So far we have vaccinated well over 1000 patients. We have also started contacting our housebound list to offer them the opportunity of having both flu and the autumn Covid Booster at the same visit and will be visiting them over the next couple of weeks.

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to people who:

  • are 50 and over (including those who’ll be 50 by 31 March 2022)
  • children aged 2-3 yrs or any child who is at increased risk
  • have certain health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • are in long-stay residential care
  • receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
  • frontline health or social care workers

In answer to a commonly asked question: yes the flu vaccine can be given at the same time as the COVID-19 autumn booster (we are also running COVID-19 booster clinics here and we have a separate “Latest News” post on this).
